Many people ask what is the purpose of the Haute Couture? What is the sense of the fashion that is so glamorous and so not affordable (and yes, even the A-list Hollywood stars which you will probably see in some of these divine creations on the red carpets, cannot buy these magnificent fashion pieces) clothes that you can mainly only watch and not have?! Well, in today´s "want all - can have all era" the sense of Haute Couture is maybe hard to understand. Especially in the time when the chic and pure classic fashion are in the sunset and the more casual style is on the horizon.
And here is where Haute Couture steps in. And by the Haute Couture, I mean the dramatic, purely glamorous and extraordinary. The spirit of the good old days of Couture but in the modern version has captivated Giambattista Valli in the Spring/Summer 2018 Couture Collection. With the mixture of the more wearable fluid textures of the dresses, with the floral textures and vibrant colors, the pure classic Couture breakdown was brought in the form of the typically Valli gowns. The chiffon rhapsody in the green, pink and peachy pink were the highlights of this Haute Couture week in Paris.
The modern traces were kept in the makeup which was natural with the glossy and wet eyelids and cheeks. The toned down factors were on the feet of the models. The simple Harlequin black ballerinas a.k.a. flats were the perfect antipode to the glamour that was going on the dresses. Not to mention all organza ruffles long dresses with the asymmetric game on the shoulders.
The ancient Rome inspiration was on the scene with the refined drapped textures on the dresses which were the easy to wear the prototype of the Couture. But Valli likes the drama and he is so good at it. So the climax at the end with the classic Valli chiffon puffed gowns were the pure festivity of the beauty of the Haute Couture and fashion in general! It has reminded us why fashion is so captivating and magical and that Couture still lives and goes on!
What do you think about this collection? Which gown do you like the most? Could you see any of them on the red carpet of the upcoming Oscars?
Thank you for the attention!
