The nature of Haute Couture is not so eligible for the changes. The constant in its aesthetic is something that keeps the exclusiveness of it all so the design codes and their range for heterogenic approach when we talk about Couture are really tight and not so usual. The canons of Couture nature of each couturier are already known so the slight changes look very tectonic and big in the world of Couture. Of course, this is the opposite of what Ready To Wear is and that is on the constant treadmill and on the urge of change. But that could be another theme for some other time.
The latest Haute Couture collection for Spring/Summer 2019 by Giambattista Valli has had that little yet for the fashion lovers and connoisseurs of Valli´s work a big heterogenic vibe. That change could be seen in his latest few collections but the biggest step was definitely captured in this Haute Couture collection. The presence of the more and more mini dresses with the chic and high seductive note was definitely a new thing for Couture edition by Valli. The first look was proof for that new kind of era: the Couture version of the Little Black Dress with the mini edition of the same boost with the big satin bow on the shoulder. The drama was here but also the modern high fashion spin of the LBD.
The dramatic detail as this one in the combination with the easy to wear mini-dress was definitely an occupation that was going through this whole collection. Just to soften this edgy flare, Valli has sent on the runway his famous "Sugar-Cotton" rich long dresses. But here in all of the ruffles' glory, the effect was contemporary with the silhouette that was featured both short and long versions. The short version on the front and the long one dramatically falling on the back cascade falling and sweeping. The coloristic solution for the short dresses was mostly in all black and the long"classic" Valli versions were brought in white, red, light or fuchsia pink.
The step forward was on the sight in the texture choice. Usually, the chiffon materials, which were here included too, the innovation was the silk and satin one. That new texture concept was very fresh, especially in the big voluminous gowns. The silhouette was definitely the same but the spirit and sense were really new and fresh. The imperative of the ruffles here was toned down so instead of the thousand minis we have had few uber-big that has accentuated the innovative and different kind of Couture beauty! The pure anti-statement was brought in the form of fuchsia red wedding gown, breaking all the rules and offering something little more dramatic.
This collection has been so exciting and a big step for the aesthetic of Giambattista Valli. The new form, the new textures, the departure of the known and already seen into something more edgier, modern and forward. Simply stunning and fresh, bold and talking in Couture language, simply brave!
What do you think about this collection? Do you like this new beauty of Giambattista Valli couture? Which dress do you like the most?
Thank you for your attention!
