It is that time of the year when Resort collections kick off. Resort collections are like the pre-collections, the collection in between the big Ready To Wear or Haute Couture fashion weeks. They are inspired by the holiday vacations and destinations, so the spectrum of the inspiration is huge and numerous. This year Dior was the first one who has shown Resort collection and this collection was all about the different kind of aesthetics and inspirations that still aspired in the frame of the typical Dior design in the visual direction by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
One thing that is also very common for Resort collections is that they are often presented from the usual headquarters and are transferred in the part of the world where likely you would go on holiday or vacation. This year the choice by Dior was Marrakech in Maroko. This fact could predict what kind of aesthetic there would be in the spotlight. The imperative of the usual aesthetic codes is something that is not a must. In contrary to the design and the style that we usually have on the display, this time the collection was inspired by Oriental embroideries and textures.
The textures were more heavy embroidered in the tapestry kind of way. The embroidery was fine but still very robust with the tons of Oriental motifs. The silhouettes were on the same kind of page, they were more opulent and heavy but still with that Dior refined attitude! Mostly long dresses were in combination with the midi coats each with its own prints´ signature. Although this description might seem like a pure prints´ clash because they were so refined and fine, the semi-look appeared totally polished and in this sense monochrome.
Talking about the monochromes. They were in this collection, in the form of the long non-waistline dresses that looked almost like the night-gowns in, again, totally Oriental vibe. The colors were muted, more on the deep side like moonlight blue, mustard yellow and brown. As the collection was going to its climax, the typical Dior spirit was on the sight. The all-white gorgeous dresses in the lace edition were the stars of the show. Something like that, so delicate and gorgeous, clean and homogenous was simply beautiful and breathtaking. With the final few pieces in the totally Dior mannerism with the sheer hues and textures and waistline accents.
This collection was far the most complexed one by Dior. The synergy of exotic culture how it was respectfully incorporated in the vision of Dior, that was really amazing and stunning! It was really one of the most gorgeous Resort collections of this season and it has set the bar really high!
