If anyone knows how to make the superb and glorifying show with plenty of megalomanic stunning stage scene than that is probably Chanel. The runway is thought to be the integrative part of the collection so the theatrical touch to it is inevitable. Whether the word is about waterfalls, the NASA launching party or like in yesterday´s case the opera house the spirit for inscenation in Chanel is a thing for itself pushing the boundaries through and making the new type of the meaning the runway show.
But this show mentioned above which was held yesterday has much more than the visual sense of it. The word is about Chanel Autumn/Winter 2018 Pre-Fall Collection which was held in the Hamburg, Germany. Hamburg is the hometown of the key man of current Chanel, Mr. Karl Lagerfeld. This could have so many "back to the roots" connotations but Lagerfeld has taken the idea of Hamburg as the second biggest harbor in Europe giving the whole collection the navy vibes brought in the Hamburg opera house. The orchestra playing along, the ultra big stage surrounded by the public, the biggest could not go for Lagerfeld´s comeback to his hometown!
The navy theme was presented and incorporated into the already known typical Chanel aesthetic with the plenty of tweed, layers and clean cuts. But there was something very archaic and vintage in this collection. Usually, Chanel tries to upgrade and to push their aesthetic towards the contemporary and modern spirits but in this collection like the spirit of Lagerfeld´s childhood was kept and brought in the Chanel mannerism.
The suits inspired by sailors and navy theme like the hats, the heavy knitts, the hardware textures. Everything was on point but still very chic and with lots of eye-catching items. The wide trousers, the robustly beautiful chiffon dresses featured with the micro-fine embellishments. The chiffon fabric was kept on the hats put like a wail alike to give the ensembles the extra drama.
Oh, talking about the drama! The dramatic touch was not just the clothes but the makeup too! Seems like lately Chanel likes to nourish the original Gabrielle Chanel look so the smokey eyes brought in the modern version were kept in this collection too! The tweedy suits were again brought in the new and innovative edition but this time in the more deep and monochromatic color, like the deep blue. With the micro-mini clutch bags featured the famous CC logo by which this monochromatic story was broken down.
Seems that the navy theme and the whole Hamburg thing was something that has inspired Karl Lagerfeld hugely because this collection was breathtaking with so many stunning connotations brought in the fashion sense. Lik when you peel the most stunning present, this is how this collection has looked like. And in some way the present it was! For Hamburg!
What do you think about this collection? Do you like the accessories and what about the makeup? Which item was your favorite?
Thank you for the attention!
