At the first glimpse, you could think that John Galliano avant-garde approach to the design is complicated and very posh to the mainstream fashion consumers. His feeling for fashion has always been so extravagant, so extra-ordinary almost on the breaks of the conventional. But that kind of (uplifting) creative spirit the fashion needs now. Or even not just the fashion, but the world itself!
The latest Maison Margiela Fall 2018 Haute Couture collection was all about that! The already known clothing conventions were brought into the new concept, into the new life. The auto-re-invention is something which has become a common thing in the house of Maison Margiela, and well, that could be the only kind of the convention there. The lines of the ordinary are totally blurred and newly thought if you ask the leading creative mind of Maison Margiela john Galliano.
The bold volume is something that Margiela is not afraid of. Even if that means layers and layers of thick winter jackets on the top of one another. Here we have another so Margiela moment, the casual and everyday clothing items are brought into the new perspective and connotation, so in that new environment, they become a totally new meaning, the meaning glamorous enough to be part of the Haute Couture concept.
But that layers´ clash was just one of the many features and highlights of this collection. The stiff and sculpted silhouette was a must throughout the whole collection. The stunning was the first ensemble on the opening of the show. The sleek pencil trenchcoat wrapped with the light chiffon around and the most stunning coat you will ever see, the conglomerate of a blazer, cape and sports top. With the pierced unfinished surface around the pockets, this piece really catches the full beauty of decadence which Maison Margiela is all about.
The coloristic range was something which was a totally new spin in this collection, too! Instead of the usual deep range of grey, brown and black, here we have had the total burst of chromatic resolutions which have given this whole fashion story, even more, bolder and edgier spirit. The vibe of traps which was felt in the whole collection with the models rolled into the clothes, seemed like it has had the imperative to talk not just one fashion story more, but to accentuate the trap in which the whole world has been stagnating lately!
And yes, in all of these layers, even that, the most important layer or could be sensed. And that is why the fashion is important and needs to be always on the search for not just the new trends but the new problem zones of our society without being pretentious! And all of that this collection possesses without any doubt! Exciting, beautiful, bold! Boy, we need more of this kind of couarge, for sure!
What do you think about this collection? Do you like this kind of style or do you think it is too extravagant? Do you think that fashion can decode the problems of our society?
Thank you for the attention!
