Yesterday on the 1. of July the Haute Couture Fashion Week has started giving us the high fashion edition of Couture for the Autumn/Winter 2018. One of the most anticipated collections which were giving us the real fashion hype was definitely the one by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. And that hype was rationalistic and expected if we have on our mind the fact that Waight Keller has made the wedding dress for Meghan Markle. With that bridal interpretation gasping on us even today, we could hint what the next, the second one, Haute Couture collection by Waight Keller would look like.
Seems that in this collection she was more inspired by Mr. Givenchy himself who passed away a few months ago. This collection could be seen as the homage to the late Hubert Givenchy and his timeless and classic elegance. Just picture yourself Audrey Hepburn in the famous and legendary movie "Breakfast At Tiffany´s" and her chic and so, at that point, very contemporary style. Well, this collection is the sort of the visual reminiscence of the best aesthetic editions by Givenchy!
What at the first glimpse catches the eyes is the monumental and light sculpted approach to the silhouette. Givenchy silhouette is more loosed up, appreciating the beauty of the woman´s body but which can not and it is not a must or the imperative. So, here in this collection, we have had the long dresses with the accentuated waistline among the clean cuts on the decollete or more ruffly ones. The high Couture moment was brought and undertoned with the long capes which have bolded up the monumentalism of this whole collection.
Another antipode of the collection were much-sculpted dresses in the silhouette and that could be the original design direction which could be taken by Waight Keller in the future. The more stunning, in this sense, was the modern edition of the famous Little Black Dress, which in this collection was presented with the sculpted formed dress which was upgraded in the shoulders giving us the "peek-a-boo" moment. With this little extravagant hint, Waight Keller has implied us in which direction her design in Haute Couture sense would go!
This collection has shown us the new-old face of Givenchy which cannot be a bad thing! When you give and pay respect to the designer which brand you have taken over, the homogenous parallels in the design sense are inevitable. But we must undertoned that this collection has had the new, fresh and original handwrite by Clare Waight Keller. It is incorporated in the more bulky and bold sculpted forms, in the touches of avant-garde and in the new vision of the femininity. Now that she has paid a respect to the past, she can move forward into the new brave design future!
What do you think about this collection? Do you think that Clare Waight Keller will be doing great in the Givenchy Couture wise, do you like her sense for the ultimate high fashion aesthetic?
Thank you for the attention!
