WILL HEDI SLIMANE CONQUER HEARTS OF TRUE CELINE FANS?!

As Hedi Slimane was announced as the new creative director and the main designer for Celine that fact was very edgy but promising. Knowing what amazing work he has done when working for Saint Laurent and Dior Homme, the fashion public was in the big anticipation for his first collection for Celine. The hype was bigger, even more, when the photos of the official Instagram Celine were all erased giving a hint of the new era that is coming for this French favorite fashion brand. Seems like this move was more like the effect of "Tabula Rasa" alluring at the new beginnings for this fashion house. Maybe in Celine were ready but the "Old Celine" recipients and consumers definitely were not! The first collection was too edgy and too much to deal with the most refined feminine approach of the previous Celine design, so not everyone was happy about Hedi Slimane´s work.

Well, seems like the strong typical Hedi Slimane aesthetic has been softened for a little and the latest collection was the proof for that! Fall 2019 Ready To Wear collection looks very promising in the concept of the "Old Celine" perspective. The casual chic brought with the flowy skirts and aviator jackets as well as the aviator sunglasses on the naked makeup free models´ faces giving it an extraordinary nature refined effect what Celine is all about. Most stunning were definitely the dresses in the midi-length versions. That was definitely the pure joy if we remember at the mini-mini versions that were more in Hedi Slimane and so less in Celine vibe.

But this time the chic romanticism was everywhere to be seen! The A-form skirts were paired with the ruffled collars´ blouses and monochrome blazers. Talking about the monochromes, the popular all-black ensembles were nowhere to be seen. Only the in the flowy-silhouetted long dress with midi-puffed sleeves. Or the latest ensemble sent down the runway, the totally sleek trousers, and jacket just to remind us at the strong Hedi Slimane aesthetic that was here totally toned down.

The question that appears is, is this ok that the designer´s talent such as Hedi Slimane´s needs to be "censored" in the urge that Celine fans still remain by Celine, and by that I mean the buyers and consumers?! The fact is that Hedi Slimane has amazing talent and that he is a "Persona" that has his own strong design path vision. But, in the end, the "buying-selling" imperative is a must, so the approach to Celine in this collection could possibly reunite and bring back "Old Celine" fans with the new Slimane era. Slimane has toned down his aesthetic closer to what Celine was all about. Pure feminine, refined, chic and simply gorgeous!

A good designer just knows how to rumble with the old archives and bring them in the new concept! The proof for that was Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel or Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen! Hedi Slimane has just started, and we bet he will conquer the hearts of the true Celine fans! This collection was a total hit, in that case!
