If you have been following the work by Paul Surridge for Roberto Cavalli, you could notice a different kind of aesthetic that is more assertive, more toned down, more on the modern and urban side of the design spectrum. And these heterogenic vibes are definitely a fresh attitude, for sure! Not that original Roberto Cavalli aesthetic was wrong. Fashion as the medium that is on the constant change, but the new design vision brought by this British creative director is something that makes Cavalli label more exciting and fresh.
Seems like the same design approach was used for Just Cavalli, the modern and youthful label by Roberto Cavalli. Even here the visual standards were toned down in the area of the pure classic with some interruptions brought by the key IT pieces, like the "ugly sneakers" or big prints. With the more refined tones in the cuts mixed with the fluent casuals and high defined elegance, this collection is definitely far from the usual Just Cavalli mode and by that, I mean rock-chic, high-seductive ensembles boosted by the rebellious kind of art. No, in this collection all of that was translated into the more urban and quotidian spin with the still much exciting visuals that were kept the true Cavalli DNA!
Those similarities were definitely in the vibrant and bold prints. The variation of them in the animal or tropic prints have allured definitely the standard Cavalli visual trademark and that is what makes the work by Paul Serridge here so amazing and brilliant. The design story is fresh and new but the known visual features are kept but in the totally new items, like the wide cut blazer and bicycle pants, cozy cashmere midi dresses in the flowy art, the one-monochrome coats, or the biker-inspired leather jacket with wide shoulders and ruffled skirt underneath. The homage was kept in the zebra printed pointy high boots, statement and bold "Just Cavalli" print on the T-shirts, fringes and animalistic motives on the fabrics.
All of that has brought the new aesthetic in the Just Cavalli brand. With the re-definition of the famous prints on the totally new spirit and the totally new ensembles and looks that are more low key and on the cool side of the fashion. This collection has still that bursting of Cavalli design with the totally new edition. More likable for everyone not just oriented on the edgy nature of red carpets. Sometimes less is more, and Paul Surridge has definitely been showing us that in the most perfect fashionable way!
