There are fashion designers that like to nourish their own aesthetic which could be considered as the repetitive but the inevitable way to keep their own design signature. Well, that is not the case with Mary Katrantzou and her style sense. Mary Katrantzou seems to take her design very seriously and she always delivers something new and fresh. Yes, we could say that the innovations are here imperative but they are stunningly incorporated in her fashion house aura so every collection by these Greek-born and in London situated designer is the pure celebration of design.
Nothing else or nothing less was Spring/Summer 2019 Ready To Wear collection presented during London Fashion Week. This was for sure the most extravagant, original and vivid collection we could see. The kaleidoscope of patterns, prints, forms and textures in this collection were simply stunning. At the first glance, it looked like the border between Ready To Wear niche was purposely over-lined and collided with Haute Couture. And simply as that, the new innovative collection was delivered.
The sculpted forms is something that Mary Katrantzou adores. Maybe because that corresponds to the time when she was studying architecture. If you search for the light and fluent forms, there is occasionally the lack of them in Katrantzou aesthetics. She likes structured pieces and even when that stiff silhouette is little loosed up, she boosts it with the interesting textures and patterns. Like in this collection we had the micro-fine embroidered mini sketches in florals connected in the modern and refined patchwork mannerism. The silhouette was more sleek but still kept very strong and accentuated. Seems like the robust nature of the textures held the imperative on the forms.
The stunning were again in bold stitched puzzle patterns covered with the nylon see-through dress. Seems like the logo "Do Not Touch" has inspired Mary Katrantzou to show her dresses as the delicate pieces of art, which to be honest they really are! The next look following that concept was a wide flowy midi-dress made of the white canvas with the famous paintings collage. The "Do Not Touch" sign has become here so direct and non-metaphoric accent and that is what Mary Katrantzou design transfers into the totally new purely artistic sense.
The patterns festivity was kept on the perfect climax with the rainy coats ornamented with the floral embellishments following after that again the pure volume silhouettes. But the most stunning were definitely well structured mini-dresses boosted with the real diamond rings. Here we can see that the texture´s play is something that Mary Katrantzou gives a lot of thoughts and work and nothing in her collection is there suddenly. Although her visual spirit and vision might appear like all over the place, she rationally gives us the more Ludus-rich fashion story. Oh , talking about the diamonds, her ombre red-silver dress which had the texture of the diamond has really rounded perfectly this show!
This collection has had many faces and facets. That is the creative strive and inspiration when the word is about Mary Katrantzou design. Her design sense is never homogenic. It is vivid, different at so many level, but still so well incorporated and well balanced. Could we say it is peace of the pure artwork?! Well, with this kind of thoughtful approach where all the little pieces are so well balanced we could say that once again Mary Katrantzou has delivered the pure art ready to wear!
What do you think about this collection? Do you like this extravagant style or do you perfer more casual and cotidian fashion design?
Thank you for the attention!
